I find Mr.Chidambaram either acting very funny or having a covert or overt intention to ruin the State of Andhra Pradesh.
It is possible that he has a third attribute as well-he is actually not equal to his task. (Some have this feeling that he has a terrible constipation these days!)
This Minister for Home affairs appears to be following news articles or just the Political statements made by the A.P. leaders to conclude that all parties were favouring the formation of Telengana. He goes on to issue a Press Release stating that the process will therefore begin! Well. Whether he is aware of the list(s) of subjects in the three lists-Union,Concurrent and State lists is in itself in question since he calls for a resolution in the State Assembly. He has done this not once but twice now.
Subsequently he points out in his latest version of his understanding that there is difference of opinion ‘now’ and therefore a consensus needs to be worked out. What is this nonsense? Does this country have a Political and Administrative process in place?What is he trying to say?
I would presume that the Union Home Minister would do well to visit the State in person, have a first hand assessment of the scenario, talk to the key players and submit a joint briefing to the ‘Core Committee’. This method of broadcasting theseAkashvani gospels from Delhi and getting away with creating chaos in the State is not only a trifle high handed but glaring in its exhibition of lack of Political expedience as well. A reluctance to explain what he has said on two occasions (both blunders) compounds this unfortunate stance not quite expected of him.
There was a time when N.T.Rama Rao had been dismissed by the then Governor Ram Lal while quoting ‘a law and order situation’. V.M. Tarkunde, Arun Shourie, and Nani Palkhiwala addressed a public gathering in Hyderabad those days. I was also in the crowd and I remember an interesting statement made by the late Palkhiwala. ‘The Governor might have a right to dismiss a government if there is a serious and uncontrollable law and order situation. He does not have a right to create such a situation!’. This was what he said.
Well. This time it is the Home Minister for a change. He is continuing to make not one, but several free attempts. The silence in Delhi which punctuates in between these attempts is actually worth noting. Jurisprudence and some objective analysis would once again point a finger at the Centre -Is there a deliberate design here? There is every reason to suspect this glorified clerk who has not cared to relate himself to the State Administration and actually involve in the issue. President’s Rule is in the pipe line…(it was quite there as the very purpose).
The message is clear. Both the groups need to realize this as early as possible.
Well. I would say only so much that Mr.Chidambaram has not even bothered to do some acting as perhaps others would have done!He is certainly not equal to his task. His inabilities would be covered more efficiently in the figure work of the Finance Ministry but not in such a place which is a virtual crucible which puts your real faculties to test (also to rest!). Some have also opined that since he hails from a State which has greedily grabbed more Cabinet berths with a far less number of MPs and a prospering IT sector in Hyderabad has not worked well with the neighbours. This could be a far fetched idea but the way he has been behaving at crucial times does leave some apprehensions…
